Answer

Countering Thought Insertion requires the Thought Overwrite technique. First, recognize when thoughts feel foreign, inserted, or interrupted—they don't feel like your own, they appear suddenly, or they interrupt your normal thinking patterns. Second, visualize a "delete" key or a "corrupted file" window over the foreign thought—this is a cognitive cue that helps you reject the thought. Third, force overwrite—immediately insert your own unrelated, structured thought such as a grocery list, a mathematical sequence (Pi, multiplication tables), a detailed recipe, a description of a room, or any other structured, non-emotional content.

This replaces the foreign thought with your own cognitive content. Fourth, actively reject the foreign thought—do not engage with it, do not give it emotional energy, do not analyze it or try to understand it; simply acknowledge it as external and let it go. Fifth, reclaim your internal cognitive space—reassert your ownership of your own mind.

The system relies on you accepting the foreign thought as your own—active rejection breaks the illusion. Practice Thought Overwrite regularly during calm periods so it becomes automatic when thought insertion occurs. Remember: you are the author of your own thoughts. Any thought that feels foreign, inserted, or manipulated can be rejected.
